I had the incredible opportunity to immerse myself in the world of surfboard craftsmanship through a hands-on internship with the highly regarded shaper, Adam Davenport. Over the course of 120 hours, I delved into the artistry of surfboard shaping and glassing, honing my skills under the expert guidance of Mr. Davenport.
During this transformative experience, I gained invaluable insights into the meticulous process of transforming raw materials into a functional work of art. From mastering the intricacies of shaping, handling tools and materials, to the delicate art of glassing. Every step of the surfboard creation journey became a canvas for learning and skill development and I had a blast and a half doing it!
Working closely with Adam Davenport not only deepened my technical proficiency but also provided me with a unique perspective on the fusion of craftsmanship, history, and creativity within the surf industry. This internship not only allowed me to contribute to the creation of high-quality surfboards but also instilled in me a greater appreciation for the dedication and precision required in this specialized field.
The knowledge and hands-on experience acquired during this internship has not only shaped my technical abilities but have also fueled my passion as a female in this industry. As a pivotal moment in my life's journey, this opportunity excited me, pushing me to pursue surfboard craftsmanship along with contributing my art to an ongoing commitment to the art and culture of surfing.
